Erectile dysfunction drug Cialis reported to benefit muscular dystrophy patients

Muscular dystrophy is a debilitating disease that leads to progressive loss of muscle control and death. Researchers at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles have reported that Cialis, which is a treatment for erectile dysfunction holds promise for Becker muscular dystrophy as well as a potential new approach for the more common and more debilitating form of the disease: Duchenne muscular dystrophy. They published their findings on November 28 in the journal Science Translational Medicine.

The study group comprised 10 patients with Becker muscular dystrophy. A single dose of Cialis restored blood flow to their oxygen-starved muscles. The investigators note that the treatment needs to be tested in larger, longer trials before it is known whether it leads to significant benefit for patients. They cautioned that it would be premature to recommend prescribing the drug to patients based on the new findings. However, if the promise suggested by the initial human study and a large body of laboratory research proves to be beneficial, it would become the first treatment for Becker muscular dystrophy and possibly Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease that results in low or nonexistent levels of the protein dystrophin and impacts muscles throughout the body. It gradually renders individuals to walk. They eventually have difficulty breathing and are prone to heart failure. Individuals with Becker muscular dystrophy have reduced levels of dystrophin; their disease typically emerges later and progresses more slowly than those with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy have almost no dystrophin and usually develop symptoms in early childhood.

The researchers previously reported that a factor in both forms of the disease is poor penetration of a gas known as nitric oxide into muscle tissue. Without nitric oxide, an inadequate flow of oxygenated blood into the muscles occurs; thus, they become weakened.

The subjects of the new study received one 20 milligram dose of tadalafil (Cialis; Eli Lilly). The medication improved blood flow in the forearm muscles of eight of the 10 patients during handgrip exercises, compared with those taking a placebo. The blood flow was measured with infrared imaging technology. It is currently not known whether regular treatment would maintain or improve muscle strength, improve a patient's endurance while walking, or protect heart muscle from damage.

Those issues are the subject of a future, larger study that is planned for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Eating raw food can help you fight cancer

Raw food can serve as one of your most powerful weapons in the fight against cancer. Doctor's Health Press reported on May 25, 2015, a raw food diet primarily focuses on eating fruits and vegetables which are known to kill cancer cells. The power of raw fruits and vegetables to help beat cancer is compelling.

Many people have the belief that eating processed meats is good for our health due to their high protein content. However, eating too much processed meats, dairy products, and other highly acidic foods has been observed to often cause more harm to our bodies than good because of how they are processed. In fact studies have shown that eating processed meats on a daily basis may increase your risk of colorectal cancer by more than 20 percent.

It is startling to learn that cows, chickens, and pigs are usually kept in cages where they sit in their own dirt and are fed corn based food instead of being fed natural grass. These animals are generally pumped up with steroids and antibiotics before being killed and processed. The meat is usually preserved by adding chemicals such as sodium nitrite to it.

There is often an extremely high fat content in processed meat which can be very toxic. Processed dairy products are usually pasteurized and homogenized. Beneficial bacteria, enzymes, milk proteins, and certain vitamins, including vitamins B12 and C, are often destroyed by this. Also processed meat and dairy products are highly acidic which lowers our ability to fight off diseases.

There are large amounts of enzymes which are essential for maintaining our metabolism in naturally harvested raw food. People who consume primarily raw food have been found to have decreased rates of cancer, heart disease, and many other degenerative diseases. Some foods which have been found to be powerful in the fight against cancer in their raw form include cabbage, carrots, purple grapes, blueberries, and pineapple.

WebMD reports a powerful ammunition in the fight against cancer is a good diet. Rachael Stolzenberg-Solomon, PhD, MPH, RD, who is a researcher at the National Cancer Institute, says eating a healthy diet is the easiest and least expensive way to lower your risk for cancer. Most experts agree that a predominantly plant based diet is the richest in cancer fighting substances. It's an attractive idea that it may be possible to eat your way to good health if you make the right food choices.

Colon cancer is a greatly feared condition which is effected by our diet. Imperial College London reported via Alpha Galileo on April 27, 2015, diet swapping has dramatic effects on colon cancer risk for both Americans and Africans. Researchers observed dramatic effects on risk factors for colon cancer when American and African volunteers switched their diets for just two weeks. Western diets are high in protein and fat but they are low in fiber and are therefore thought to increase colon cancer risk in comparison to African diets which are high in fiber and low in fat and protein.

A new study has confirmed that a high fiber diet can significantly decrease colon cancer risk, and has showed that bacteria which live in the gut play an important role in this effect. This is important because colon cancer is the fourth most common cause of death from cancer across the world. There are greater than 600,000 deaths per year from colon cancer. Colon cancer rates are much higher in the western world than in Africa or the Far East, yet in the United States it is African Americans who have the greatest burden of this disease.

In order to investigate the possible roles of diet and gut bacteria in the development of colon cancer researchers studied a group of 20 African American volunteers and another group of 20 participants from rural South Africa. Over the course of two weeks the two groups swapped their diets under very tightly controlled conditions.

Check this Article: Penile Implant Surgery in India At the beginning of this study almost half of the American subjects had polyps. These are abnormal growths in the bowel lining which may prove to be harmless but which can progress to cancer. None of the African participants had these abnormalities. After just two weeks on the African diet the American group had markedly less inflammation in the colon and decreased biomarkers of cancer risk. Among the Africans measurements which indicate cancer risk dramatically increased after two weeks on the western diet.

This study has been published in the journal Nature Communications. The findings in this study suggest that people can substantially decrease their risk of colon cancer by eating more fiber.

Although this finding in itself is not new it was surprising to see how quickly and dramatically the risk markers can switch around in both groups following a change of diet.

It is suggested by this study that westernization of the diet sets off changes in biomarkers of colon cancer risk in the colonic mucosa within just two weeks. It is also important to note that a change in diet from a westernized type to a traditional African high fiber low fat diet decreased these biomarkers of cancer risk within just two weeks. It should be remembered that it is not likely to ever be too late to change what you eat to change your risk of getting colon cancer. A high fiber low fat diet as usual appears best.

A revolutionary new treatment for improving sexual wellness

Sex has become a centerpiece of modern cultural. It is up for discussion everywhere – radio, TV, movies and even unexpected places, like at the office or in schools. But, the one place sex isn’t being discussed is in your doctor’s office - an omission that can keep you from achieving and maintaining an optimal sex life – for your whole life.

If your sex life - regardless of your age - has taken a nosedive, either because it is painful, unexciting due to lack of arousal or you can’t perform, there is a new simple treatment that can bring back desire and so much more and it’s effective for both men and women.

This revolutionary procedure, known as the O-Shot® for women and the Priapus Shot® for men, has made its way to South Florida thanks to the work of Fort Lauderdale physician and founder of Doctors Studio, Dr. Lisbeth Roy. Dr. Roy was trained by the mastermind behind these procedures, Dr. Charles Runels, who is well-known for bringing the Vampire Facelift® to the medical community. Dr. Runels harnesses the power of platelet rich plasma, or PRP, through these various procedures to rejuvenate aged and damaged tissue.

PRP is the portion of human blood that contains stem cells and growth factors that go to work to heal the body when damage occurs. For decades, the technology has been used in the dentistry profession and in the treatment of athletic injuries. Even superstars, like Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods have turned to PRP to keep them in the game.

Now, Dr. Roy is striving to help her patients, and men and women all over the U.S., achieve sexual health and well-being through the use of PRP. She is one among only three physicians exclusively trained by Dr. Runels to certify other physicians in the performance of this procedure.
The O-Shot® and Priapus Shot® have become a central focus of Dr. Roy's career, “So many men and women struggle in silence with sexual dysfunction and it affects so many aspects of their lives," she explains. "Now, there is no need to suffer. These procedures, when combined with a comprehensive sexual wellness program can treat many dysfunctions and make overall improvements in the patient’s sexual well-being. I want as many people as possible to have access to this procedure because it truly changes lives.” Dr. Roy was recently featured on Fox News, giving an in-depth look at the benefits of the O-Shot® for women.

The O-Shot® and Priapus Shot® procedures begin with a simple blood draw. Then, using a proprietary technique, the growth factors of your platelet-rich plasma are extracted from your blood sample and injected into the sex organs using a patent-pending procedure. The injection sites are numbed with a local anesthetic cream before the procedure begins, leaving patients to experience little or no discomfort.

Both procedures have been proven effective for treating a variety of sexual health issues, including vaginal dryness, pain during sex, inability to achieve an erection and lack of sensation. For women, the O-Shot® has also proven to treat urinary incontinence, eliminating symptoms and the need for medication, in many cases.

Currently, only a select number of physicians are certified and trained in the O-Shot® and Priapus Shot® procedures. Dr. Roy and her team are working to find more qualified physicians to make this procedure a cornerstone in the treatment of sexual health issues across the country.

Dr. Roy is anti-aging and functional medicine physician in Fort Lauderdale. She focuses her practice on using advanced technology and cutting edge therapies to help men and women live better and look better for longer. Her list of services offered in Fort Lauderdale include not only PRP procedures, such as the Vampire Facelift®, Vampire Facial® and Vampire Breast Lift®, but she also helps patients optimize their health through bioidentical hormone therapy, custom nutrition plans and stress-management techniques.

Nigerian citizens flock to India for Cost effective Weight loss surgery

Medical tourism India has now become hugely popular for its Weight loss surgery all over the world. Forerunners Healthcare has been helping more and more men and women throughout Nigeria and other countries like U.K. and U.S.A to lose weight through Weight loss surgery in India. Carrying that extra pound can increase the risk of health problems including diabetes; heart disease; stroke; steoarthritis; high blood pressure; gallstones; infertility and depression. Weight loss surgery in India offers safe and effective means of helping you reach and maintain your target weight and allow you to enjoy a better quality of life by following a structured and supervised programme.

Losing weight is an individual challenge, different for every person and considering an operation is a big decision. Since no two bodies are alike, no two people receive the same treatment. Indian surgeons who undertake Weight loss surgery are aware that it is important to select patients who are most likely to benefit from it. They ensure that the patients only undergo the surgery if it is right for them by only selecting patients who fall under the following:

  •  For gastric bypass surgery the patient must have a BMI of over 35.
  •  For lap band surgery, the BMI must be over 30.
  • All patients must be aged 18 or over.
  • Other methods of losing weight have been tried without success.
  • There is no specific metabolic or psychological reason behind the patient's obesity
  • The patient has sufficient knowledge and understanding of the Weight loss surgery and what changes it will produce.
  • The patient is motivated to have the surgery and make the necessary post-operative lifestyle changes.

Types of Weight loss operation

Expert Indian bariatric surgeons offer a range of Weight Loss surgery procedures including gastric banding (gastric band), also known as lap banding, gastric bypass and gastic balloon insertion etc. They also offer sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch operations.

  • Gastric Band:- A band fitted around the top of the stomach which severely restricts the amount of food you can eat.
  • Gastric Bypass:- A line of staples separates the top part of the stomach to create a pouch which means food bypasses most of the stomach and small intestine.
  • Stomach Stapling (Vertical banded gastroplasty):- An obsolete weight loss operation replaced by the gastric band.
  •  Sleeve Gastrectomy:- An operation for weight loss which reduces the size of the stomach.
  • Bilopancreatic Diversion:- This operation removes most of the stomach and attaches a small pouch left to the final part of the small intestine.
  • Duodenal Switch:- A similar operation to the bilopancreatic diversion, this operation involves removing part of the stomach.
  • Intragastric Balloon :- A deflated silicone balloon is placed into the stomach and filled with liquid to create a feeling of fullness.
  • Implantable Gastric Stimulator :- This operation involves implanting electrodes into the stomach which stimulates the stomach to send messages to the brain to induce feelings of fullness.

Benefits

The most obvious benefit of this surgery is losing weight: it does depend on the type of procedure but generally, you could be looking at up to 80% of loosing your weight. This varies from one person to another but is an average figure. Weight loss means reduced body fat levels which equates to a slimmer, more natural looking you Apart from weight loss, another benefit for the surgery is a reduced risk of developing an obesity-related disease such as Type II diabetes. These conditions or ‘co-morbidities’ are extremely serious and very often are not reversible. Another factor linked to this is that these co-morbidities are life-threatening. In some cases you could be looking at losing seven years off your life. By undergoing the surgery you will reduce any long term health risks and ensure that you have a normal life expectancy.
Cost effectiveness

Making the decision to undergo this surgery is not an easy one, With Forerunners Healthcare you can be assured that your surgery will be carried out in one of the best private hospitals in India where you will experience the highest levels of patient care. The main reason that attracts more tourists to have their Weight loss in India is the vast difference in cost of treatment.  The treatment is upto 30 percent cheaper than the US or other European countries like the UK, France, Brazil or Germany. Citizens from countries such as Nigeria, Bangladesh and Pakistan can also benefit from this surgery due to availability of such cost effective and much affordable treatment.
